This recipe is a favorite in my household. It is so quick, easy, and unbelievably delicious for something so simple! The type of bread you use does contribute to the chewiness. See the featured recipes section for the bread I always use when I make this cinnamon-sugar French toast.

Produce

Meat, Dairy, & Eggs

whole milk, 0.25 cup(s)

egg, 1 whole

Directions

Step 1

In a wide-based bowl, mix:

0.25 tsp vanilla extract

1 TBSP sugar

0.25 tsp ground cinnamon

0.25 cup(s) whole milk

1 whole egg

Mix until well combined. This is what you will soak the bread in.

Step 2

In another small bowl, mix:

1 TBSP sugar

0.25 tsp ground cinnamon

This is the optional cinnamon-sugar coating for after you cook the bread.

Step 3

Begin heating a non-stick pan over medium heat. Cut your bread into 1.5-inch by 1-inch (by however long) sticks or leave the slices whole.

Drench the slices in the milk-mixture and put them in the skillet. Cook each side until golden brown. Now (optional), coat each stick or slice in the cinnamon sugar coating you made.

Step 4

Serve and enjoy!.

Toppings: Top with fresh fruit and/or maple syrup.
